Police have launched a murder investigation after a man was found with fatal stab wounds in Upper Well Street, Coventry

After another man was fatally stabbed in Coventry city centre this morning, a man was detained on suspicion of murder. (April 6). Officers responded to Upper Well Street shortly before 2.40 a.m. and discovered a man with severe injuries.

Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, the casualty, who was in his twenties, could not be saved. He was tragically confirmed dead soon after.

A second man with hand wounds was found and taken to the hospital for treatment. A 23-year-old man was arrested on allegations of murder and attempted murder and is being questioned.

A cordon and road diversions remain in place while police carry out their enquiries. Superintendent Ronan Tyrer said: “This is the tragic death of a young man and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this devastating time.

“We currently have a man in custody but we’re still in the very early stages of our investigation to establish exactly what happened and why. We understand our enquiries will lead to disruption in the city centre and we’re grateful for your support and understanding.”
