Tyreek Hill with the Dolphins

It’s not often that an NFL player announces the end of his or her career, but that appears to be what great Dolphins receiver Tyreek Hill did this week.

Hill was asked how long he plans to play in the NFL on the “Totally Offensive” podcast, and the All-Pro receiver gave a shorter answer than one may have expected.

“I’m going for 10,” Hill said. “I’m going to finish out this contract with the Dolphins and then I’m going to call it quits.”

By “10,” Hill appeared to mean he will play ten total seasons in the NFL, with seven already under his belt.

It’s a surprising admission for a player that is very much in his prime, having just finished the 2022 season with 1,710 receiving yards – second in the league.

He is coming off the best season of his career from a statistical standpoint and is still only 29.

Hill is under contract for four more seasons, albeit the final year of his contract (2026) would entail a large $56 million cap charge, and the team can opt out of his contract before that with minimal impact to the dead cap.

It may have been a passing remark on a podcast, and Hill has no incentive to keep to the timetable he provided, but it’s nonetheless fascinating to hear the superstar wideout think about his career in those terms.

Hill did offer some insight into what he’d like to do instead of football if he were to hang up his cleats early.

I really want to get into the gaming space,” Hill said. “I really want to get huge in that and that’s kind of what I’m doing right now. I’m using my platform to create a gaming team, which isn’t launched yet. It should launch by the end of this month. I’m going to just sign different content creators, different athletes. I just been working that, talking to different sponsors.

“I want to do so many things in my life.”

Hill spent six seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs before being traded to the Dolphins last offseason, winning a Super Bowl with Patrick Mahomes and Co. in 2020.

After the 2021 season, the Dolphins sent a first-rounder, a second-rounder, and three late-round picks to Kansas City in exchange for the electric receiver.
